SMS backups can be created as HTML,XML or CSV files. MMS media is copied over to the microSD card. Now that you have backup of your text messages, you can delete certain threads, or clear the entire Messaging storage to make your Messaging application run much faster.
With Txtract, not only can you backup your SMS messages, but you can also send them to your email.
The backup files will be under the directory
/sdcard/download/txtract/ (once you connect your phone to your computer, check the "download" directory)
The MMS messages will be saved under numbered directory names.(those correspond to conversation numbers)
Lite vs. Full
We've been getting a lot of inquiries about the differences between the "lite" and "full" versions of Txtract. In a nutshell, Lite doesn't do output format selection (XML, CSV) but only exports HTML. And it doesn't do "thread selection", but works on the entire message store. "Lite" got only 2 buttons, instead of thread list where you can pick and chose the SMS/MMS conversation threads.
A few quick tips on possible problems;
- Make sure that your SD card is NOT mounted during the time of extraction. You may also need to disconnect the USB cable.
Txtract is available for download via the "Market" application on your phone. We are under the "Tools".
